2018 RV Trip Jerry & Del March 1 thru June 5, 2018
This year we were on the road from Thursday, March 1 to Tuesday, June 5. We were on the road for 97 days. Our final destination was Portland, OR. Along the way we visited family and friends and again marveled at the expanse and beauty of this GREAT country we call “Home.” One highlight was the 2018 CALLERLAB Convention in Albuquerque, NM. We always enjoy the convention which is our one time a year opportunity to see many of our long time friends, fellow callers and partners from all around the world. At this convention Jerry finished his second term on the CALLERLAB Board of Governors and has resigned from the Board. We have enjoyed our quarter century of close association with the Home Office as Assistant Executive Director, Executive Director, and Board Member.Another highlight was the Cirque du Soleil show “O” in the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. We have attended several of the Cirque du Soleil shows and they are ALL outstanding, fascinating, and truly, amazing. We encourage all of you to see at least one of the shows. On this adventure - we had only one call for mobile RV repair. This was to investigate and fix a minor problem with our living room slide out. On other trips we have had more than one call for mobile RV repair. Perhaps we “fixed” everything! This year’s travels took us to Jacksonville, FL for a visit with family & friends, including Leslie & Doug and Sue & Paul. Then to East Texas for a visit with Shaun & Sarah; New Mexico for a visit with Howard & Rosemary; Albuquerque, NM for the 2018 CALLERLAB Convention; Provo, UT where we enjoyed an early spring snow storm. After Utah we drove to Portland, OR for a great visit with Kelly (Sky), Ania, and William. From Portland wed drove to Eastern WY for a visit with Lois & Ben; Central NE for a visit with Fred & Kay; Central IL for a visit with Bob & Georgian; Montgomery, Al for a visit with one of square dance friends, Kitty.During our trip we experienced a very wide range of weather. From lows in the 20's and highs near 100. There was strong wind, light rain, and even SNOW. Fortunately, we were not delayed due to the weather. Overall we had FANTASTIC weather. Several times we were sure the cold weather was behind us, only to find more cold weather. We believe this trip was the coldest of all our trips. We burned through to lot of propane, but our reliable furnace kept us cozy warm. This year we covered over 7,000 miles. Our travels are mostly on the Interstate system, although there are a few times we take US, State, and some county hi-ways. Almost all the roads are in very good shape. Even so, there were also a few which were not so good (actually terrible.) Fortunately, the good roads far outnumbered the bad.We also found a wide range of gas prices; from a high of $3.00/gal to a low of $2.00/gal. We also stayed in a wide range of RV Parks. By far, most were very nice with friendly staff, level sites, and many had cable TV. Only a few were in the category of “we won’t go there again.” Del was able to visit some art museums and Jerry was able to enjoy some fine “people watching.” We also enjoyed some fine “eatin” places.Bottom line - we VERY much enjoy traveling AND we very much appreciate getting home. We thank each of you for your thought and well wishes.
IT IS NICE TO BE HOME!!!!
